I've been experimenting more with making pieces of scenery easily removable so you can easily change out the look of your layout, easily reuse items, and even perhaps use scenery modules for multiple purposes. Maybe you can pluck off a scenery module from your layout, use it for an evening of gaming, and then put it back on the layout when you are done.
