The Proxxon hot wire cutter is a great tool to add to your workshop if you spend a lot of time cutting foam for your modeling projects. With the hot wire cutter, you can quickly cut strips of foam, make bricks, cut out disks, or even sticks of butter as you will see in the video.
The cutter works great, but the cutting guide doesn't work great out of the box. I added a small disk of sandpaper under the locking knob so it would bite into the plastic harder and prevent the guide arm from turning. A hot wire cutter in this price range shouldn't have that defect, but otherwise the cutter works well. You have enough wire filament to last you for years, and there are different temperature settings available to use with different thicknesses of foam.
Overall, this is a great tool if you cut a lot of foam, but if you don't, then this is probably a tool you don't need to worry about buying.
