A look at my dad’s American Flyer set from 1950 or 1951. This 4-4-2 Atlantic still runs, albeit poorly. I plan to give the locomotive an overhaul and see if I can get it running smoothly. Watch for an update video in a few weeks to see if I was successful! I plan to put a new control board in the tender, replace all the wiring, replace the motor brushes and springs ,and lubricate all the gears and moving parts. If that doesn’t work, I‘ll likely replace the motor with a smoother running modern drop-in replacement.
