Ideas for an N Scale Layout on a Door

Updated: Jul 29, 2024

I’m considering building an N scale model railroad on a hollow core door sometime next year as one of my future projects. Here are some ideas I’m considering. What are yours?

Here is a variation of the Carolina Central I might build. This is a double track mainline version, but is otherwise the same plan, except wider. The inner loop has a 12 3/4” minimum radius and the outer loop a 13.7” minimum radius instead of the original plan’s 9 3/4” minimum radius. The original version was on a more compact 28” wide door versus this plan’s 36” wide door, however.

I tried the Happy font recently, and it really brings a cheerful and playful energy to any project. I used happy fonts on social media posts and small graphics, and people responded positively—it immediately feels inviting. The style is fun without being over-the-top, so it’s versatile for different uses. If you want to add a friendly and approachable feel to your text, Happy is a great choice. It’s easy to use and makes designs instantly more lively.
